When job hunting, many students never think to reach out to their existing network, their inner circle of people who already know them. Cold emailing is a poor tactic, so investing in people you have some connection with already is a much better than messaging every engineering firm on the internet. This episode provides three ideas for asking your inner circle for help. One, reach out to family. Your never know who will know an engineer, and sometimes you have to give family members ideas in order to help you. Two, high school teachers and principals. These old teachers want to see you prevail, and will do everything they can to help you. Your STEM teachers may be connected to the engineering field, and you won’t know unless you ask! Three, reach out to old employers. These employers could know people in your field and are certainly willing to connect you with these people because they WANT you to succeed. Plus, these teachers already know you, they trust you, they know you will not let them down, or let their contacts down.
