Episode 14 – How this Solopreneur Became a SAP Consultant for some of the Biggest Brands in the Game! (Interview w/Richard Z. White)

Richard Z. White has over 20 years as SAP certified Basis Consultant,  and  over 25 years designing, delivering and developing integrated solutions.  His development expertise includes delivering database, Internet, and imaging solutions to a variety of industries. He has served as technical lead on numerous Large scale implementations, partnering with  the likes of Black & Decker ,  Discovery Channel, Grainger, PepsiCo, Coca Cola Bottling, and many more.
In addition, Richard is national board member for the National Society of Black Engineers and has worked with major educational institutions and to develop technologies and programs to increase the representation of minorities in engineering.

Random Fact:

As a fan of the beach, Richard’s favorite travel destination is Martha’s Vineyard. He visits about 2-3 times a year and has been going since his childhood. He has now began to establish this tradition by introducing the love of the island with his daughter.

The Idea:

He began doing information technology (IT) consulting in his spare time; while still a student. While doing an internship at Digital Equipment Corporation (now Hewlett-Packard) he became very proficient in Systems Applications and Products (SAP) applications. With this experience he essentially began to freelance as a developer for friends and local businesses. A key project he completed early in his career was a membership software system for the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). Once he graduated with his undergraduate degree, instead of getting a job with a major corporation he moved to  to the DMV area and went into the market as an independent consultant.
